“It's Incredibly Balanced!” Trying Dualbell at HomeGymCon
Share
"If I was wearing a blindfold, I could not have told you it was a dumbbell."
That's not something I hear every day.
At HomeGymCon, a visitor stopped by our booth and tried performing barbell curls using Dualbell dumbbell converters.
After lifting the bar, he offered a spontaneous observation:
"It's incredibly balanced. Very impressed."
As the inventor of Dualbell, those were particularly satisfying words to hear.
But they also raise an interesting question for anyone considering a dumbbell-to-barbell converter.
Does a Barbell Loaded With Dumbbells Feel Balanced?
It's a reasonable question.
When most people picture a barbell, they imagine conventional weight plates mounted on either end.
Dualbell takes a different approach by allowing compatible dumbbells to serve as resistance on a standard 1-inch bar.
Because dumbbells have a different shape and weight distribution from conventional plates, someone seeing the system for the first time might wonder how the setup feels during an exercise.
That's one of the reasons I enjoy demonstrating Dualbell in person.
People can pick up the bar, perform familiar movements, and form their own opinions.
At HomeGymCon, this visitor chose barbell curls.
His immediate impression was that the setup felt incredibly balanced.
A Different Way to Perform Barbell Curls
Barbell curls are one of the most familiar strength-training exercises.
They're commonly performed using a straight bar or EZ-curl bar loaded with conventional weight plates.
With Dualbell, compatible dumbbells can provide the resistance instead.
The converters fit around the dumbbell handles and slide onto a standard 1-inch bar, where the setup is secured with appropriate collars.
This allows someone who already owns dumbbells to perform barbell curls without necessarily purchasing a separate collection of weight plates.
And when the exercise is finished, those same dumbbells can return to their original use.
It's a straightforward idea: get more exercise options from the equipment you already own.
What About the Dumbbells' Natural Rotation?
Another distinctive characteristic of Dualbell is that the dumbbells can rotate naturally under load.
Rather than being fixed in exactly the same way as conventional weight plates, the dumbbells are able to move as the bar changes position.
This creates a different movement characteristic that some lifters notice immediately.
Others, like the visitor in this video, may be surprised by how balanced the setup feels.
Those are individual experiences, and the sensation can vary with the exercise, load, dumbbell design, and lifting technique.
The important point is that Dualbell offers another way to train using compatible dumbbells.
Why First Impressions Matter
When I demonstrate Dualbell at events, I don't expect everyone to react the same way.
Some people immediately want to try a bench press.
Others head for deadlifts, rows, or overhead presses.
And some choose curls because they're familiar with how a conventional barbell feels during that movement.
Watching people experiment with Dualbell gives me an opportunity to hear what they notice.
Sometimes they comment on the versatility.
Sometimes they notice the rotation.
And sometimes they tell me that the setup feels more balanced than they expected.
That's useful feedback because it comes from someone actually using the equipment, rather than simply looking at a product photo.
More Exercises From the Dumbbells You Already Own
Dualbell was designed to expand the possibilities of a home gym built around dumbbells.
With compatible dumbbells and standard 1-inch bars, the system can be used for exercises including:
- Barbell curls
- Bench presses
- Overhead presses
- Bent-over rows
- Deadlifts
- Shrugs
- Landmine exercises
For home gym owners working with limited space or budgets, that additional versatility can be valuable.
You don't necessarily need a separate collection of weight plates to add these barbell movements to your workouts.
And you don't lose the ability to use your dumbbells individually.
Built for Home Gym Versatility
Dualbell dumbbell converters are made in the USA from durable Nylon 66.
They have been independently lab tested up to 1,900 lbs, with a maximum recommended load of a 125 lb dumbbell per Dualbell converter.
Dualbell is designed for standard 1-inch (25 mm) bars and works with most fixed dumbbells and many adjustable dumbbells, depending on handle compatibility.
Compatible dumbbell handles can measure up to approximately 1.38 inches (35 mm) in diameter.
As with any strength-training equipment, use properly secured collars, check compatibility, and select a manageable weight.
Sometimes You Just Have to Try It
I can explain how Dualbell works, demonstrate the different exercises, and show how the dumbbells attach to a bar.
But one of the most interesting parts of HomeGymCon is watching someone experience it firsthand.
This visitor tried barbell curls and shared an observation I certainly appreciated:
"If I was wearing a blindfold, I could not have told you it was a dumbbell."
Then he added:
"It's incredibly balanced. Very impressed."
That's his experience, in his own words.
And it's one more reason I enjoy getting Dualbell into people's hands.
