Romanian deadlifts are one of the best exercises for developing the posterior chain. By emphasizing the hip hinge, they challenge the hamstrings, glutes, and lower back while reinforcing proper movement mechanics that carry over to many other lifts.

In this video, I perform Romanian deadlifts with dumbbells. Then those same dumbbells take on a second role—as the load for conventional barbell deadlifts using Dualbell dumbbell to barbell converters.

Romanian deadlifts and conventional deadlifts may share a name, but they emphasize different movement patterns.

Romanian deadlifts begin from the standing position and focus on the hip hinge, maintaining tension in the hamstrings throughout the movement.

Conventional deadlifts start from the floor and involve greater knee bend, allowing you to move heavier loads while training the entire posterior chain.

Both exercises deserve a place in many strength programs.
