My Dumbbells Double as Plates: From Heavy Shrugs to Front Raises

My Dumbbells Double as Plates in My Home Gym
One of the biggest advantages of a home gym is the ability to train on your own schedule. One of the biggest challenges is having enough equipment to support a variety of exercises without filling the room with weights and machines.
That challenge helped inspire Dualbell dumbbell to barbell converters.
In this video, I demonstrate a simple shoulder workout that begins with heavy shrugs and transitions into lighter front raises. What makes the workout interesting is how quickly the weight changes using the same dumbbells.
For shrugs, I combine dumbbells on each side of the bar to increase the load.
For front raises, I switch to a single dumbbell per side.
The result is a quick transition between two very different exercises.
Why Shrugs and Front Raises Require Different Loads
Shrugs primarily target the trapezius muscles, which are among the strongest muscles in the upper body. Because of this, many lifters can handle significantly more weight during shrugs than they can during isolation exercises.
Front raises are different.
The movement places more emphasis on the front deltoids and shoulder stabilizers. Most people use much lighter weight to maintain proper form and control throughout the exercise.
That difference makes these exercises a good demonstration of how quickly workout demands can change.
Combining Dumbbells for More Weight
One feature of the Dualbell system is the ability to load one or two dumbbells per side onto a standard 1" bar.
When I want more weight for exercises like shrugs, I can combine dumbbells on each side to increase resistance.
For lighter movements, a single dumbbell per side may be all that is needed.
That flexibility allows the setup to adapt to the exercise rather than forcing the exercise to adapt to the equipment.
Quick Changes Between Exercises
Many home gym users worry that changing setups will slow down a workout.
In practice, switching between configurations is quick and straightforward.
That means less time changing equipment and more time training.
More Exercises. Less Equipment.
The goal behind Dualbell has always been simple: help people get more from the equipment they already own.
Heavy shrugs.
Lighter front raises.
One dumbbell or two per side.
The same dumbbells can support both.
That is one of the reasons my dumbbells double as plates in my home gym.
And why they are always working.
Made in the USA from durable Nylon 66 and lab tested to over 1,900 pounds, Dualbell helps create more exercise options without requiring more equipment.
