Dualbell: Barbell and Overhead Presses

Dualbell: Barbell and Overhead Presses

My Dumbbells Do the Work of Plates

One of the biggest challenges in a home gym is balancing exercise variety with available space. Most people start with dumbbells because they are versatile, relatively affordable, and easy to store. Over time, however, many home gym users also want access to barbell-style exercises without investing in a full collection of weight plates.

That is the idea behind Dualbell dumbbell to barbell converters.

In this video, I start with a barbell overhead press using Dualbells on a standard 1" bar. The video then transitions into a traditional dumbbell overhead press using the same dumbbells.

The concept is simple:

My dumbbells do the work of plates.

And still do the work of dumbbells.

Two Effective Ways to Train

The overhead press is one of the most effective exercises for developing shoulder strength, upper-body stability, and pressing power.

When performed with a barbell, the overhead press often allows lifters to handle more weight and focus on progressive strength gains. The fixed bar path and stable setup make it easier to track progression over time.

Dumbbell overhead presses offer different advantages. Because each arm works independently, dumbbells require greater stabilization and coordination. Many lifters use dumbbell pressing to help improve balance, shoulder stability, and unilateral strength.

For many training programs, both variations have value.

Use Dumbbells Like Plates

Dualbell dumbbell converters allow dumbbells to be loaded onto a standard 1" bar much like traditional weight plates.

Instead of purchasing and storing multiple sets of plates, home gym users can use the dumbbells they already own as the load on the bar.

This creates opportunities for barbell-style exercises such as:

  • Overhead presses

  • Squats

  • Front squats

  • Rows

  • Deadlifts

  • Shrugs

  • Curls

  • Good mornings

For home gym owners with limited space, that additional versatility can be valuable.

And Still Use Them Like Dumbbells

One of the biggest advantages of the Dualbell system is that nothing is lost.

The same dumbbells used for barbell-style exercises can immediately be used for traditional dumbbell movements.

After performing barbell overhead presses, those same dumbbells can be used for:

  • Dumbbell overhead presses

  • Lateral raises

  • Rows

  • Lunges

  • Bench presses

  • Countless other exercises

That flexibility allows a single set of dumbbells to support multiple training styles.

More Exercises. Less Equipment.

Many home gym users are looking for ways to maximize what they can do with the equipment they already own.

Dualbell dumbbell to barbell converters were designed around that idea.

Instead of choosing between dumbbell training and barbell-style training, Dualbell helps bridge the gap between the two.

My dumbbells do the work of plates.

And still do the work of dumbbells.

More exercises. Less equipment.

Final Thought

The overhead press transition shown in this video highlights what makes Dualbell unique.

The same dumbbells are used for a barbell overhead press and a dumbbell overhead press.

No additional plate collection required.

Just more ways to train using the equipment you already have.

That is the power of double duty dumbbells.
