Starting a Home Gym? Why Dualbell “Makes a Lot of Sense”
Share
Sometimes the most interesting product feedback comes from someone who doesn't actually need what you're selling.
That happened during one of our demonstrations at HomeGymCon.
A woman stopped by the Dualbell booth with her husband and learned how Dualbell dumbbell to barbell converters allow compatible dumbbells to be used as weight on a standard 1-inch bar.
After seeing the concept, she turned to her husband and made an observation that immediately caught my attention:
“If we didn't have everything at home already, this makes sense. If you were starting out, working out at home, this makes a lot of sense.”
I liked that reaction precisely because she wasn't saying that Dualbell was something their home gym needed.
They had already built their gym.
Instead, she was thinking about someone at a completely different point in the process: a person just starting a home gym.
Starting a Home Gym Means Making Choices
Building a home gym can get complicated surprisingly quickly.
You may start with a bench and a pair of dumbbells. Then you want to squat. Deadlift. Bench press with a bar. Perform rows, curls or overhead presses.
Before long, the equipment list can start growing.
Dumbbells.
A barbell.
Weight plates.
A rack.
A bench.
Storage for the dumbbells.
Storage for the plates.
And, of course, enough room to actually use everything.
For someone with a large dedicated gym space, that may not be a problem. But many people train in garages, basements, spare bedrooms, apartments and other limited spaces.
That's where getting more functionality from each piece of equipment can become particularly valuable.
What If Your Dumbbells Could Do Two Jobs?
Dumbbells are one of the most versatile pieces of strength-training equipment you can own.
But traditionally, if you also want to perform barbell exercises, you need another source of resistance: weight plates.
Dualbell changes that equation.
Dualbell attaches around the handle of a compatible dumbbell and allows that dumbbell to slide onto a standard 1-inch bar. Secure the setup with a 1-inch collar, and the dumbbell can now provide the load for a variety of barbell-style exercises.
Dumbbells When You Want Them. Barbell Exercises When You Want Them.
That's the part of the concept that can be especially interesting for someone building a home gym from scratch.
The same dumbbells used for dumbbell presses, goblet squats, lateral raises and dumbbell rows can also help provide the resistance for exercises such as barbell bench presses, squats, deadlifts, overhead presses, rows and curls.
When you're finished, remove them from the bar and they're simply dumbbells again.
You're not giving up dumbbell training to gain barbell-style exercise options.
You're getting more potential uses from the same equipment.
Less Equipment Can Mean More Room to Train
Saving space isn't only about having a tidier gym.
Every additional piece of equipment has to go somewhere.
A collection of traditional weight plates can require a plate tree, wall storage or space on a rack. In a one-car garage or compact home gym, that footprint matters.
Dualbell can provide another option for people who already plan to own dumbbells but don't necessarily want or need a separate collection of traditional plates.
That doesn't mean traditional weight plates don't have a place in a home gym. They absolutely do.
The question is whether every home gym owner needs them to get started.
For some people, the answer may be no.
Traditional and Adjustable Dumbbells Can Add Even More Versatility
Dualbell works with many traditional dumbbells as well as many adjustable dumbbells with compatible handle dimensions.
That can make the concept particularly interesting for compact home gyms.
An adjustable dumbbell already replaces multiple fixed dumbbell pairs. Pair compatible adjustable dumbbells with Dualbell and a standard 1-inch bar, and those same dumbbells can potentially support an even broader range of exercises.
That's one of the reasons we've used the phrase:
Make Adjustable Dumbbells More Adjustable.
It isn't about changing how the dumbbell itself adjusts.
It's about expanding what you can do with it.
Sometimes the Customer Explains the Value Proposition
That's ultimately why this particular HomeGymCon interaction stuck with me.
She didn't need a sales pitch.
She didn't tell me that everyone should own Dualbell.
She simply looked at the product through the eyes of someone starting a home gym and said:
“This makes a lot of sense.”
That's an important distinction.
Dualbell isn't designed to tell someone with a fully equipped home gym to throw away their weight plates.
It's another way to build and expand a strength-training setup.
For someone starting out, working with limited space, trying to control equipment costs or simply wanting to get more versatility from the dumbbells they already own, Dualbell dumbbell to barbell converters provide another option worth considering.
Sometimes getting more from your home gym doesn't require adding more equipment.
Sometimes it means asking what else the equipment you already have can do.
Dualbell is patented and Made in the USA from durable Nylon 66. Dualbell has been third-party lab tested up to 1,900 lbs, with a maximum recommended load of a 125 lb dumbbell per Dualbell.
